April Meeting Topic: Overview of Decision Analysis and Applications for Cost Professionals
Join us Thursday night, April 16th for our next monthly meeting at Lanury's in south Denver. After some networking and dinner Mr. John Schuyler, an Aurora-based consultant and 25-year course director and trainer with PetroSkills, will give a technical presentation on Decision Analysis and Applications for Cost Professionals.
Last summer, decision analysis (DA) celebrated its 50th anniversary. DA provides ways to incorporate judgments about uncertainty into the evaluation of alternatives. Cost professionals using these methods can provide more-credible analyses. The foundation calculation is expected value, usually solved by a decision tree or by Monte Carlo simulation.
The presentation will review the DA basics and show example decision and valuation models. The discussion will include cost estimation, feasibility analysis, risk management, and project schedule modeling. Project failures are common in the news, and we can do better by improving models and addressing biases.
John Schuyler, CCP, CMA, CMC, DRMP, PMP and PE, is a consultant and trainer in risk and economic decision analysis and in project risk management. He has over 40 years' experience in analysis, consulting, and management. He is the author of two books, several courses, and over 40 papers, articles, and handbook chapters. John has BS and MS degrees in engineering physics from Colorado Mines and an MBA from C.U. Boulder.
Networking will start at 6:00pm. Dinner and brief section news will start at 6:20pm. The main presentation on Recovery Schedules will start around 7:00pm. We look forward to seeing you for what should be a really interesting evening and another great meeting with our AACE association.
