April Meeting Topic: The Invention of Gluten-Free Cheerios

Topic Information:

Join the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering on Thursday, April 21st, for our next Rocky Mountain Section meeting. The meeting will be held at the Philip S. Miller - Castle Rock Library, at 100 South Wilcox, Castle Rock, CO 80104.

We will have a special presentation from Phil Zietlow, Research and Development Chemical Engineer for General Mills. Mr. Zietlow has helped General Mills and those will celiac disease turn a new page with the invention of a Gluten-Free Cheerios. His inspiration sprung when a family member was diagnosed with Celiac. Since that time Phil has been on a quest to establish a new patent, develop a manufacturing process for mass production, construct a new General Mills facility and support overall project progress. His insightful presentation can encourage you not give up when adversity challenges your own projects.

Mr. Zietlow graduated as a Chemical Engineer from University of Minnesota. He has over 50 years experience with General Mills R&D. Some key contributions include developing new cereals like Honey Nut Cheerios and Gluten-Free Cheerios, as well as new processes and equipment for making products better and more efficiently. This has lead Phil to several dozen patents. He has been married to his wonderful wife Susan for 51 years. They have three remarkable kids and three amazing grandchildren. He also finds the time to play hockey 3 times/week. His other hobbies include: Boy Scout Scoutmaster, bee keeper, kite skiing, dahlia grower, classic tractor restoration, home/car repair problem solver, etc.

Networking will start at 6:00pm. Dinner will start around 6:15. The presentation will begin shortly after 7pm.
